Two weeks in Rajasthan

In our fast-paced world, finding moments to detach from work and embrace new experiences can be vital for personal growth and creativity. Recently, I embarked on a two-week journey to Rajasthan, in the northern India, with the sole intention of stepping away from the screen and immersing myself in a culture vastly different from my own.

The itinerary

One of the most memorable aspects of this trip was our deliberate lack of strict organization. Upon landing in India, we had no plans, accommodations, or itinerary in place.

Embracing the collective nature of Indian society, we quickly realized that local insights were invaluable for crafting a meaningful journey. We eagerly listened to numerous suggestions and collaboratively pieced together a plan to visit eight distinct cities.

Unfortunately, our movements were limited due to persistent fog, which caused significant disruptions in the Indian railways network, making it challenging to rely on public transportation. This didn’t allow us to engage in train transport, probably taking from us one of the most genuine experiences of a country so different than Italy.

The cities

The cities we visited offered us a unique and genuine experience, though they were not necessarily geared toward tourism. Unlike some destinations with numerous attractions, these cities typically featured one or two notable sights.

The crowded streets of New Delhi
The central market of Jodhpur
The centre of Jaisalmer, the last city before Thar desert

However, what truly stood out were the people and the vibrant culture that surrounded us. It felt like an authentic immersion into daily life, where the real treasures were the interactions and the insights gained from experiencing a whole different culture.

A special mention goes to…

It was a humbling reminder of our place within the natural world. Our time in Ranthambore left an indelible impression, underscoring the importance of connecting with and respecting the untamed beauty that surrounds us.

Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National Park enveloped us in a profound experience during our two nights spent amidst fog and rain. As we navigated the misty trails, surrounded by the echoes of wildlife, we were drawn into the primal rhythms of the jungle. This immersion allowed us to contemplate the raw beauty and inherent complexity of nature, where life unfolds in its most unfiltered form.

The temples

Amidst the rich tapestry of India’s cultural heritage, our exploration of the temples was a captivating journey into history, spirituality, and architectural marvels.

In India, religion is woven into daily life with a remarkable tolerance and acceptance of diversity. This inclusive approach fosters a rich tapestry of traditions and rituals that contribute to a sense of communal harmony and shared spirituality.

People of India

The people we encountered throughout our journey in India left a lasting impression with their warmth, hospitality, and strong sense of community. From bustling markets to serene villages, we were welcomed with open arms and genuine curiosity by everyone we got to meet.

It was evident that connections among individuals were deeply rooted in shared values and traditions, fostering a sense of unity that it’s not common in the daily Milanese life. Interactions with locals provided invaluable insights into daily life and reinforced the beauty of human connection in a society that values togetherness more than singularity.

Suresh and Jülide in Jaisalmer

An important individual who significantly enriched our journey was our driver, Suresh.
Suresh dedicated considerable time to us, providing invaluable guidance and support throughout our trip. His companionship and local expertise enhanced our experiences, offering us unique insights into the places we visited and the culture we immersed ourselves in. Suresh’s presence exemplified the genuine warmth and generosity that we encountered from the people of India during our travels.

A balance

Balancing between work and other aspects of life is crucial for overall well-being and personal fulfillment. While dedicating ourselves to our professional pursuits is important, it’s equally essential to carve out time for activities that allow us to detach from daily life we are used to.

As a software developer, my work often leads me into the realm of digital creations, risking a detachment from the tangible realities of everyday life.

Engaging in hobbies, spending quality time with loved ones, exploring new places, or simply taking moments of rest and relaxation are all vital for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
